About Lake Improvement Efforts

1/22/19 Update – We are happy and proud to announce that at this morning’s Rice County Commissioners meeting, the creation and formation of the Circle Lake Improvement District was unanimously approved. This approval concludes years of hard work and dedication of many people who have volunteered their time, energy, and personal resources to accomplish. The process in gaining this approval has also demonstrated our lake communities’ caring attitude to make our lake a better place, with the goal of eliminating its listing on the MPCA list of impaired waters. This is an exciting time for our community. We thank you for your support through the years, and we look forward to keeping you posted on the progress we make in the future!

Our main goal is to improve Circle Lake’s water quality and get the lake removed from the MPCA’s “impaired waters” list.  We commissioned the preparation of a Lake Management Plan (see summary or full plan), which was issued in April 2011.  Since then, we have been working on the plan’s key priorities, including (1) watershed projects designed to reduce the amount of pollutants entering Circle Lake, (2) carp control and reduction efforts, (3) aquatic plants, and (4) sediment.  We have work groups dedicated to each of these areas and are attempting to make progress in one or more of them every year.
