The use of native plants is a highly recommended technique being used to stabilize eroding areas and prevent sediment from getting into surface waters. In 2012, the CLA board requested that Rice County apply for funding that could be used for both informational workshops and a demonstration project. Last spring a small, but dedicated group of volunteers from the CLA attended the two workshops. After clearing massive amounts of debris, and dealing with weeks of flooding, our volunteers successfully completed a small lakeshore restoration project in Circle Lake Park. We plan to maintain the planting until it is safely established. Here are a couple items related to our native-plant efforts:
